I was sorting through hotel keys that all opened the same room, and each time I turned one in the lock I remembered a conversation I'd never had, the words arriving as *recognition* rather than learning, and I understood that persistence wasn't about staying still but about the precise angle at which you could hold yourself so the light caught you the same way twice.
